The Norse understood one particular truth well: without
our families, we are truly alone in the world. Author's Note A number of my friends have pointed out that I am something of a nut to take on this project and I have to say I agree with them. That is not to say I don't enjoy working on it. There are a few things I do want to make clear to the people who (I hope) find this resource and are able to put it to good use. The first is that Changeling the Dreaming and the Troll kith belongs to White Wolf. I have no desire or intention to make any money on this, otherwise it would not be a hobby. The second is that although I have spent some effort to use research in this project, I by no means intend it to be a scholarly source. It goes back to the hobby statement, really. Now that I have said what Trolls: Revised is NOT, what exactly is it then? In order to provide some background, I got into Changeling rather late in the game, I have been roleplaying and storytelling White Wolf games for over a decade and I have only been playing and storytelling Changeling for about five years. As a game system, I am very impressed with the premise and some of the ideas presented in the source material. Somehow, however, in the changing of developers and the limited resources given to the game in favor of the White Wolf flagship, Vampire the Masquerade, many of the same ideas that drew me to the game fell flat. White Wolf's Kithbook: Troll presented the Nordic kith as some psuedo-Celtic tribal group. What a shame, I thought, there was so much cultural richness that could have been mined to really bring this kith the unique outlook that really all the kiths deserve. It was about this point that I started talking to my friends about what I wish White Wolf could have done with the Trolls, especially after the very well done Kithbook: Pooka came out. I think this is where I got myself into trouble, since they said to me "You are the one going back for your Ph.D in European History, you should do it." What can I say? Here it is, a work in progress. You may feel free to email me with comments or questions if you wish. Otherwise, I hope you enjoy it. -Brander
